Por más movimientos mundiales que haya, el abuso sexual todavía sigue siendo una práctica no sólo más o menos tolerada, sino tan selectivamente repudiada que muchas veces la indignación asociada únicamente se usa como puerta de entrada para censurar otros comportamientos, esos sí para nada tolerados pero en realidad inofensivos.
Tomemos, para empezar, el caso de Diomedes Díaz, cuyos excesos con el licor y las drogas eran por todos conocidos. Algunos años antes de su muerte se vio involucrado en el caso del asesinato y posible acceso carnal violento de Doris Adriana Niño, una mujer con la que él sostenía una relación sentimental. Al morir Diomedes ese episodio se recordó muchas veces, como era de esperarse, y nadie protestó por ello, como también debería ser de esperarse: la vida de todos los humanos está compuesta por luces y sombras, si bien en diferentes proporciones para cada uno.
Cuando murió Kobe Bryant, otrora estrella de la NBA, la periodista Felicia Sonmez publicó un trino que contenía el vínculo a un artículo del Daily Beast donde se refería a las acusaciones de violación que una joven le hizo a Bryant en 2003, a sus 19 años, mientras este tenía 23. Pues bien, el Washington Post, medio para el que trabajaba Felicia, suspendió temporalmente a la periodista -que ya había recibido más de 10.000 mensajes amenazantes por parte de internautas furiosos con su publicación-, alegando una «falta de criterio que socava el trabajo de sus colegas».
¿La razón verdadera de la suspensión? Desconocida hasta ahora, pero no tendría nada de raro que ésta tuviera que ver con la imagen de hombre hogareño y deportista de Bryant. En contraste, agrego, con la de parrandero y drogadicto de Diomedes, la cual motivaría el verdadero fastidio hacia su persona, así estas conductas nada más le hubiesen hecho daño a él.
Y si no, ¿por qué tendría que estar implícitamente prohibido tocar a pocas horas de la muerte de Bryant el tema del abuso sexual del que él era autor confeso, y en cambio sí estuviera bien que un episodio similar se mencionara abundantemente cuando murió Diomedes? ¿Se es menos abusador si uno es deportista y hogareño a que si es parrandero y drogadicto? ¿Lo que importa es que se abuse y se maltrate a una mujer, o lo que en realidad importa y lo que se juzga es cómo lleve cada quien su propia vida?
